Xinhua News Agency, Qingdao, May 24 (Reporter Zhang Xudong) The reporter learned from the Shandong Huangdao Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on the 24th that when the inspection and quarantine department recently inspected and quarantined a batch of waste plastics from the United States, they found that a large number of them are prohibited from mixing. Some discarded medicines have serious environmental problems.

According to reports, this shipment weighs 19,577 kilograms and is worth 10,392.66 US dollars. After disassembly and sorting and instrumental testing of the drugs, the results showed that they contained OTC (over-the-counter) Profen tablets and other waste drugs. Discarded medicines belong to the "National Directory of Hazardous Wastes", which are inclusions that are prohibited from being mixed in imported waste plastics. The Huangdao Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued an "Inspection and Quarantine Certificate" and an "Inspection and Quarantine Processing Notice" for this batch of goods, and handed them over to the customs for processing.

The composition of medical waste is complex. According to the "Medical Waste Classification Catalogue", medical waste mainly includes infectious waste, pathological waste, traumatic waste, pharmaceutical waste and chemical waste. The discarded drugs detected this time are general drugs discarded in pharmaceutical wastes, including antibiotics and over-the-counter drugs. Plastic processing companies cannot recycle waste medicines and will inevitably discard them, which will cause secondary pollution to the atmosphere, groundwater, surface water, and soil. If used infusion sets, plastic bedpans, etc. are used by processing companies and produced into daily necessities, it will cause greater harm.

The inspection and quarantine department recommends severely cracking down on the inclusion of medical waste, increasing the inspection of inclusions, strengthening the training of medical waste knowledge, and prohibiting any form of medical waste from entering the country; domestic consignees should pay attention to medical waste and sign trade contracts In, the economic compensation for inclusions is clearly prohibited to avoid economic losses; an early warning mechanism is established to issue a warning notice to the consignor of medical waste mixed with the country of origin to increase the inspection rate of the goods and increase their illegal costs.
